Arsenal see £50k bid rejected by Wolves

Arsenal have had a first bid for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Dan Bentley turned down, with the Gunners reportedly offering £50,000.

David Ornstein of The Athletic broke the news on Wednesday morning that Arsenal have had a first bid for Wolves’ Dan Bentley rejected.

Ornstein writes that Arsenal see Bentley as a potential backup to David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale, but their first bid is considerably short of Wolves’ asking price.

Simon Collings reports for The Standard that Arsenal’s opening bid for Bentley was £50,000, and it was swiftly rejected by Wolves.

Alan Nixon initially broke the news of Arsenal’s interest in Bentley, and he’s since reported that Wolves want around £1m for the goalkeeper’s sale.

If they’re going to sell, Wolves want to bring in enough money to fund a replacement.

But Arsenal evidently feel a deal should be possible for much less than that, with Wolves only spending £50,000 to sign Bentley in the first place and the goalkeeper only having a year left on his contract.

Bentley featured five times for Wolves last season, and he’s homegrown, having played for Arsenal as a youth player. He represented the young Gunners between 2001 and 2008, before moving on to progress into senior football with Southend United.

After that, Bentley played for then-Championship sides Brentford and Bristol City, before eventually making the step back up to the Premier League in 2023 by joining Wolves.

It remains to be seen if a compromise can be reached between Bentley’s former club and his current one.
