Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri has been nominated for the League Cup’s Goal of the Round award after scoring against Preston North End.

The goal was a stunning effort from outside the penalty area, with Nwaneri quickly shifting the ball onto his left foot before launching an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

The goalkeeper was left rooted to the spot, but even a world-class shot-stopper would have had no chance.

Nwaneri has been making plenty of forward strides this season, stepping up into the Arsenal first-team squad for his first competitive starts under Mikel Arteta.

Still just 17 years old, the midfielder will hope to have a long career ahead of him, and Arteta has been careful to take things step by step.

But when he’s producing eye-catching moments like the one against Preston, you can understand why the fans are starting to get excited about one of the club’s top prospects.
