Arsenal loanee impresses again with another assist
Arsenal loanee Fabio Vieira provided an assist from a corner for FC Porto on Monday, keeping his positive recent run of form going.
Fabio Vieira made his sixth consecutive league start for FC Porto on Monday, making the lineup against Estrela Amadora. Within 12 minutes, he’d helped his side to take the lead.
The goal came from a familiar source for Arsenal fans, with Vieira whipping in a corner. The ball went all the way through the box to Nico Gonzalez at the far post, who steered it home for 1-0.
Vieira played 84 minutes of the match, coming off with Porto still one ahead. The team then scored a second late in injury time to secure a 2-0 victory and three points.
Though the scoreline was tight until the end, Porto dominated the 90 minutes, and Vieira had a big part in that.
As well as his assist, Vieira created four further chances. Two of those five key passes were classified as ‘big chances’ by the stats providers. The 24-year-old also had a couple of shots of his own before coming off.
With three goal contributions in his last four games, Vieira seems to be getting going now. He only had one assist from his first 12 matches with Porto, but it seems he just needed a goal to get back in the swing of things.
Porto remain second in the Liga Portugal, two points off leaders Sporting CP. Benfica are also in the mix, two points behind Porto but with a game in hand. It could be a tight title race, so Vieira’s loan team need him at his best.
