Il Corriere dello Sport reports that Arsenal are close to matching Bologna‘s asking price for Italy international Riccardo Calafiori even if Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea remain in the race.

Bologna hope for a bidding war for their star defender Calafiori and according to Il Corriere dello Sport, the Gunners have made a €47m offer to sign the product of the Roma academy.

The Rome-based paper adds that Arsenal’s offer is close to Bologna’s €50m asking price, but the Rossoblu haven’t yet accepted the Gunners’ proposal.

Bologna director Giovanni Sartori said on Monday that Calafiori would not join Juventus, suggesting that a move to the Premier League remains the most likely option for the 22-year-old.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Bologna are now waiting for an updated offer from Arsenal or Chelsea.

The Blues have yet to make an official bid for Calafiori, who joined Bologna from Basel for €4m last summer.

The Swiss club holds a 40% clause on any next sale, so Calafiori’s price tag could even increase if more Premier League clubs join the race to sign him.
