Arsenal are looking for a new head coach of their women’s first team after Jonas Eidevall tendered his resignation on Tuesday morning.

The Swede had come under increasing pressure following last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.

Supporters booed following the full-time whistle to show their dissatisfaction with how the side had started the 2024/25 campaign.

The result left the Gunners sitting sixth on five points in the Women’s Super League standings, having won just one of their opening four games. They have won just twice in seven matches in all competitions.

Following the defeat to Chelsea, Eidevall avoided directly answering questions on his future, insisting that he was focused on the next game.

You have to go game by game but there’s no point hiding away from reality and we know it’s a bad start to the season,” he said in his post-match press conference.

“I give absolutely everything today in preparation for this game. The players gave everything on the pitch. That’s the part you can control and ask for from your players. Just focusing on the next match. I just need to focus on the things I can do.”

Arsenal confirmed, however, that Eidevall has resigned and left the club with immediate effect after three years at the helm. He guided the team to two League Cup titles during his stint.

Assistant coach Renée Slegers will take interim charge of the side while the club conducts its search for a new manager.

“We have great respect for the dedication and commitment he showed to our women’s first team and recognise the role he has played in the growth and development of Arsenal Women.  We all wish him the very best for the future,” sporting director Edu Gaspar said in a statement.
