Arsenal and Barcelona Suffer Transfer Blow as PSG Youngster Will Likely Opt for ‘Stop-Gap’ Move

Xavi Simons plans to decide on his future after UEFA Euro 2024. According to reports, he is unlikely to extend his stay at Paris Saint-Germain, and several top European clubs are interested in signing him this summer.

During his loan spell at RB Leipzig, Simons made a significant impact, featuring in 43 matches across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and registering 15 assists.

L’Equipe recently reported that Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, and Manchester City have all reached out to PSG to explore the possibility of signing Simons.

Moreover, Florian Plettenberg from Sky Sport Germany stated that Bayern Munich is preparing a loan offer with an obligation clause, proposing a transfer fee between €60 million and €70 million to secure Simons.

With so much information in the rumor mill, PSG Talk columnist Robin Bairner weighed in on what will transpire with the 21-year-old. In his latest column for PSG Talk Extra Time, Bairner believes that Simons will make a short-term decision before eventually deciding on his future in 2025.

“There is a glut of clubs following his progress at present, with Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich having approached PSG. Barcelona, too, are said to be interested. But Simons’s current tendency is to return to RB Leipzig… If he does, indeed, depart once again, a switch to the Bundesliga club, therefore, makes a lot of sense. 

“As for the player, all the indications are that he loves playing for the Saxony outfit. He enjoys both the atmosphere around the club and the prominence he has in the team. They can offer him the type of stability that he craves, particularly with the news that Benjamin Šeško has signed a new contract at the Red Bull Arena after much speculation he would be off to the Premier League—or even PSG.

“This could provide an excellent stop-gap before 2025 when Simons is likely to finally decide how his career in the big-time launches.”
