Liverpool head coach Arne Slot admits he has “big shoes to fill” after succeeding Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

Slot, the ex-Feyenoord coach, has been officially unveiled on Merseyside as he addressed the media for the first time alongside sporting director Richard Hughes.

Former Liverpool manager Klopp led Liverpool to their first Premier League title in 30 years and a sixth Champions League success during his time in charge.

Now Slot is tasked with maintaining those high standards and the 45-year-old Dutchman is confident he can rise to the challenge.

He said: “What made Jürgen special was the impression he left behind. He said he was ‘the normal one’ but the fans see him differently. What he did for the club was more than normal.”

While Slot acknowledged the challenge of replacing Klopp, he also emphasised the benefit of joining a club with a quality squad and an established winning culture.

He added: “You want to work at a club with good players and an opportunity to win something.

“The past shows there is an opportunity to win something here. I like to win and at this club there is an opportunity to win.”

Slot also mentioned the private conversations he had with Klopp, which have inspired him as he takes on this new role.

“We’ve spoken about many things, but they stay between us. Him singing for me at the end of last season was special. I was fortunate at Feyenoord that they sung for me after a few years. Fans already singing for me here is a good start.”
