Army announced discipline Tuesday for defensive coordinator Jay Bateman, who was found to have accepted leaked information from former Wake Forest radio announcer Tommy Elrod.

In the scandal that’s become known as “WakeyLeaks,” Elrod was found to have given out Wake Forest game plan information to opponents. In a release, Army said an investigation found that Bateman and former assistant Ray McCartney accepted “non-public information” from Elrod and “took actions to conceal the information and its source.” As a result, Bateman has been fined $25,000 and suspended from football activities for two weeks, effective immediately.

“Our commitment is to foster a culture of excellence and winning in everything we do,” said superintendent Lt. Gen. Robert L. Caslen, Jr. in a statement. “It does not mean that we win at all costs. Rather, it means winning in accordance with our values and who we are as an institution and a nation. When we win, we will do so honorably, remaining true to the values and standards that define us.”

Army athletic director Boo Corrigan said Bateman, who is entering his fourth season with the program, will be required to attend an ethics training program.

“Although no NCAA rules were violated, these actions do not represent our values,” Corrigan said. “We appreciate Wake Forest bringing this matter to our attention and I want to apologize to the Wake Forest administration and to the West Point community.”

The investigation found that information was shared before the two teams played in 2014 and 2016. In 2014, a 24-21 Wake Forest win, Elrod shared information with McCartney, who passed it along to Bateman. In 2016, a 21-13 Army win, Elrod and Bateman communicated directly. McCartney left West Point in 2015.

Army, which went 8-5 and snapped a 14-game losing streak to Navy in 2016, is the third program to admit to receiving information from Elrod. Previously, both Louisville and Virginia Tech said assistants were in contact with Elrod.

Louisville co-offensive coordinator Lonnie Galloway was fined and suspended for the Citrus Bowl for speaking with Elrod before the Cardinals and Demon Deacons met in November. Virginia Tech admitted that a coach — later revealed to be Shane Beamer — spoke with Elrod before the teams played in 2014.

Beamer, now at Georgia, was fined by UGA. Beamer is the son of longtime Hokies head coach Frank Beamer.

On top of that, the ACC fined both Virginia Tech and Louisville $25,000 each for receiving information from Elrod.

Elrod was fired when the breach was discovered following a school investigation. Elrod played for Wake Forest as a walk-on quarterback from 1993-97 and then served as a graduate assistant from 1999-2001. He returned to Wake in 2003 and was an assistant at the school for 11 years under Jim Grobe. When Dave Clawson was hired as head coach, Elrod was not retained as an assistant. However, he remained around the program as a part of the radio team. Clawson said Elrod was allowed to have “full access to players, team functions, film room and practices.”
