Armed standoff with Montreal police ends with 2 arrests

Montreal police arrested two men in their 40s Tuesday afternoon following a robbery attempt that led to an armed standoff.

Police believe the two men tried to rob a Pharmaprix store near the corner of Sherbrooke and Hogan streets around 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Officers nearby gave chase and followed the suspects to a small apartment building across the street.

A tactical team and armoured truck were deployed to the scene where two men had barricaded themselves inside the building.

Children at a nearby daycare and the tenants of the apartment building were instructed not to leave their premises for their own safety.

Police told people to avoid the area on Sherbrooke Street between Bercy and Montgomery streets.
