Argyle to review structure in wake of Dewsnip departure
Plymouth Argyle will look at the structure of the club's football operation after confirming the departure of director of football Neil Dewsnip.
The former England youth coach left the club soon after Wayne Rooney's exit as head coach earlier this month.
Dewsnip was appointed in December 2019 and oversaw the club's rise from League Two to the Championship under managers Ryan Lowe and Steven Schumacher.
He also led the side, along with coach Kevin Nancekivell, to survival in the Championship last season in the wake of Ian Foster's sacking.
But he left having been involved in the appointments of both Rooney and Foster, who led the club to just seven league wins between them.
"We took the opportunity to look at the whole structure within the football department," chief executive Andrew Parkinson told BBC Sport.
"I've got to say and put on record that I think he has been instrumental in the development of the football club from where we were five or six years ago in League Two.
"The academy has been developed and has progressed significantly, his vision in mentoring some of the managers that we've had in those five years, so I want to thank him."
Parkinson said new head coach Miron Muslic will be involved in how the new structure comes about, although it will ultimately be a decision for the club as a whole.
"I think it's a great opportunity for the club," added Parkinson.
"We've got great ambitions to develop with the academy being built as we speak and that coming on stream, but also in line with a sort of a vision and values of where we want to be in three or four years' time, and to have the right person to take us on that journey."
