Anthony Gordon should snub interest from Liverpool this summer to remain at Newcastle United. That is the view of former Manchester United striker Louis Saha.

The ex-Everton winger was linked with a return to Merseyside prior to the profit and sustainability rules deadline last month, but a combination of the Magpies' asking price and insistence on inserting Jarell Quansah into a swap deal, saw the Reds walk away from negotiations.

Although amid fears on Newcastle's part that the England international would have his head turned due to interest from his hometown club, it has been speculated that Liverpool could test their resolve with a bid before the summer transfer window closes.

Having watched Gordon score 12 goals and chip in with 10 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions last season - thus earning him a place in England Euro 2024 squad as a reward - Saha understands why interest in the 23-year-old will be high this summer.

However, the Frenchman has warned the forward to stay put at St James' Park to avoid getting a reputation as a player who moves around frequently.

"I'm not surprised that there’s interest in him because he’s been showing the signs of a player that wants to develop as quickly as possible," Saha told Betfred.

"I don’t think it's a good time for him to move however, because it’s not a good thing to move around different clubs frequently and he’s only been at St James’ Park for 18 months.

"I would advise him to remain at Newcastle this summer."

Gordon expected to stay at Newcastle

In comments that will be music to Saha's ears, Newcastle CEO Darren Eales has told Chronicle Live that he expects Gordon and the other prized assets at the club to remain at St. James' Park for the season ahead.

"In the end, we had to do the deals that were right for the club, that made us compliant," he said.

"So, from that perspective, we did what we had to do. But we kept what I would say are our core players, the type of players like Isak, Gordon, Bruno, Joelinton - those players who are our core

"Now it's a case of OK, with that new cycle ahead of us now, how can we look to strengthen? How can we look to go to the next level?"
