Another South Carolina tight end will enter transfer portal

South Carolina tight end Connor Cox (18) dives in for a touchdown as Akron safety Noel Roach (14) defends during the second half of the Gamecocks’ game against Akron in Columbia on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Another South Carolina football player is planning to transfer.

USC sophomore tight end Connor Cox announced Saturday via X/Twitter his plans to enter the transfer portal.

“I would like to thank the University of South Carolina, Coach Beamer, Coach Elliott, my teammates, and the rest of the Gamecock staff for their support of me and my development over the past 2 years. After careful consideration, I have decided to enter the transfer portal with 3 years of eligibility remaining.”

The 6-foot-6, 242-pound Cox has one catch for nine yards and a touchdown in his career, which came in USC’s home win against Akron this season. He appeared in five games last season as a freshman.

He is the ninth USC to announce plans to transfer, including fellow tight end Reid Mikeska. The transfer portal officially opens Monday.

“I am very grateful for the lifelong friendships and memories that I have made during my time in Columbia,” Cox posted to X. “I wish the team and their wonderful fans great success as you end the 2024 season. I am extremely blessed to have the ability to play the game I love, and I am excited for what God has in store for me moving forward.”
