A leading member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona will play no part in the club’s upcoming tour of the USA.

That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards Frenkie de Jong as the player in question.

Midfielder De Jong is of course condemned to the treatment table once more at present.

Owing to an injury suffered whilst lining out for Barcelona back in April, the former Ajax man was forced to sit out the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 campaign.

The hope was that as much would see De Jong fully fit and firing in time for the beginning of pre-season training back in Catalunya’s capital.

Upon new boss Hansi Flick’s troops being put through their paces for the first time two weeks ago, however, the 26-year-old was nowhere to be seen.

And, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, De Jong’s return does not appear all that much closer now, either.

As per a report from AS:

‘The Dutch international has met with the coach and the doctors to make a decision about the state of his right ankle and the convenience of travelling to the United States, with two long and heavy transoceanic trips in between. Finally, all parties have reached a consensus that it is best for Frenkie to continue his rehabilitation in Barcelona.’
