Ferland Mendy’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu has been a subject of speculation for some time.

With Real Madrid’s interest in Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies well-documented, doubts lingered over the Frenchman’s role in the team. However, as the transfer window progresses, it seems that the club’s priorities have shifted.

Real Madrid’s pursuit of Davies has hit a roadblock. Bayern Munich have shown no inclination to negotiate a deal for their star left-back, with the German giants themselves aiming to tie the Canadian down to a new contract.

This development has forced Real Madrid to reassess their defensive options and, in doing so, highlighted the importance of Mendy to the squad – a sentiment backed by coach Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italian tactician, known for his adaptable coaching style, has made a rare exception in requesting the renewal of the French full-back.

Ancelotti views Mendy as an indispensable component of his system, often praising the defender’s abilities and his performances this past season.

The club is now focused on securing Mendy’s long-term future. Negotiations for a contract extension have already commenced, and there is optimism within the club that a deal can be finalized before the start of the season.

The urgency to tie Mendy down is evident, with the fear of losing him on a free transfer looming large if a renewal is not secured by next summer.

As for Davies, Bayern Munich have reportedly revamped their efforts to renew the contract of the Canadian international, with pressure from new coach Vincent Kompany.

The coming days, therefore, could prove to be crucial, especially if Bayern are willing to meet Davies’ hefty salary demands.
