Analyzing Bears' final injury report for Week 3 against Colts

The Chicago Bears (1-1) released their final injury report ahead of Sunday's Week 3 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts (0-2).

The Bears will be without receiver Keenan Allen for a second straight game as he continues to nurse a heel injury that he reaggravated in Week 1. But the good news is rookie wideout Rome Odunze, who is dealing with a knee sprain, has been removed from the injury report and is good to go for Sunday. Elsewhere, right guard Nate Davis has been ruled questionable against the Colts. If he can't go, it'll be Matt Pryor most likely getting the nod.

On the Colts side, rookie defensive end Laiatu Latu (hip) and wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. (back, calf) are both questionable. Indianapolis has no players who have been ruled out.

Here's a look at the Bears' final injury report heading into Sunday, with analysis:

Out

  • WR Keenan Allen (heel)

  • FB Khari Blasingame (hand/knee)

  • DL Zacch Pickens (groin)

  • RB Travis Homer (finger)

Allen will miss his second consecutive game as he continues to nurse a heel injury that he reaggravated during Week 1. He will not travel with the team for a personal reason. Meanwhile, Blasingame will also miss his second straight game as he deals with hand and knee injuries leaving Chicago without a fullback. Pickens reaggravated his groin injury last Sunday night, and he'll miss his second game of the season. Homer had surgery on his finger and was placed on injured reserve, where he'll miss at least the next four games, which means we should see more Roschon Johnson at running back.

Questionable

  • OL Nate Davis (groin)

Davis was listed as questionable for Sunday's game after he reaggravated a groin injury in practice, and he's been limited all week. If Davis can't go, it'll be Matt Pryor getting the start. Even if Davis is healthy and ready to go, it sounds like the plan is to get Pryor some work at right guard in a rotational role with Davis.

Removed from injury report

  • OL Kiran Amegadjie (quad)

  • DT Andrew Billings (groin)

  • OL Teven Jenkins (thigh)

  • WR Rome Odunze (knee)

  • DE Montez Sweat (elbow)

  • DE DeMarcus Walker (foot)

The Bears had several defensive linemen who were limited this week during practice, but Billings, Sweat and Walker are all clear for Sunday's game against the Colts. They'll be needed against a solid offensive line, where they'll need to turn up the pressure on Anthony Richardson and contain running back Jonathan Taylor. Meanwhile, Jenkins has been removed from the injury report after nursing a thigh injury, so the offensive line gets one of its best players before taking on an Indy defense without DeForest Buckner, who was placed on IR. Odunze, who suffered a knee sprain a couple of weeks ago, is also good to go, as it Amegadjie, who continues to ramp up after spending the offseason recovering from his quad injury.

On injured reserve/PUP list

RB Travis Homer: Homer suffered a finger injury in practice and had surgery to fix it. He was placed on IR ahead of Week 3. Homer will miss at least the next four games, and he's eligible to return in Week 8 against the Commanders (after a bye in Week 7).

LS Patrick Scales: Scales underwent back surgery last month to fix a disc issue, which landed him on IR to start the season. He'll miss at least the first four games of the season, and he's eligible to return in Week 5 against the Panthers. With Scales sidelined, it'll be local product Scott Daly getting the nod at long snapper.

OL Larry Borom: Borom was placed on short-term IR as the Bears submitted their 53-man roster. He's required to miss at least the first month of the season, where he can return as early as Week 5 against Carolina.

DE Jacob Martin: Martin was placed on short-term IR when Chicago assembled their 53-man roster. He's required to miss at least the first four games of the season, and he's eligible to return as early as Week 5 against the Panthers.

WR Nsimba Webster: Webster suffered a groin injury in the preseason finale against the Chiefs after an impressive first quarter of action. He was placed on IR (with no designation to return), which officially ends his 2024 season.

RB Ian Wheeler: Wheeler, the "Hard Knocks" fan favorite, suffered a torn ACL in the preseason finale against Kansas City. While the undrafted rookie be able to rehab at the facility when he's ready, his promising season is over before it even started.

WR Dante Pettis: For the second straight year, Pettis has landed on IR, and his season is over. Chicago released him with an injury settlement.
