Analyzing Bears' final injury report for Week 2 against Texans

The Chicago Bears (1-0) released their final injury report ahead of Sunday night's Week 2 matchup against the Houston Texans (1-0).

There are some concerns about the Bears' receivers with Keenan Allen and rookie Rome Odunze battling injuries. Both have been declared questionable -- even with Allen having missed practice all week and Odunze suffering a Grade 1 MCL sprain last Sunday. There's a chance they could play, but they could very well be game-time decisions leaving Chicago without two of its top weapons.

On the Texans side, running back Dameon Piece (hamstring) and offensive lineman Juice Scruggs (groin) are questionable for Sunday night while safety M.J. Stewart (knee) has been ruled out.

Here's a look at the Bears' final injury report heading into Sunday night, with analysis:

Out

  • OL Ryan Bates (shoulder/elbow)

  • FB Khari Blasingame (hand/knee)

The Bears ruled out two players for Sunday night's game: Offensive lineman Ryan Bates, who's nursing a shoulder/elbow injury, and fullback Khari Blasingame, who has hand/knee injuries. While Bates didn't get the start last week, he replaced Nate Davis at right guard and played a majority of the reps. Now, it'll be Davis getting the lone work at right guard. Meanwhile, Chicago will be without a fullback, which means we should see plenty of tight ends in this game.

Questionable

  • WR Keenan Allen (heel)

  • WR Rome Odunze (knee)

  • DE DeMarcus Walker (foot)

There's encouraging news for Chicago's offense with wide receivers Rome Odunze and Keenan Allen both being questionable. While certainly no guarantee that either will start, it's good news for the short-term future even beyond Sunday night. After suffering a Grade 1 MCL sprain last Sunday, Odunze was a limited participant in Friday's practice, an indication he might suit up, although it sounds like Saturday will be key in determining that. Meanwhile, Allen hasn't practiced all week after reaggravating a heel injury, but he was listed as questionable so he could very well be a game-time decision. Also, defensive end DeMarcus Walker, who's dealing with a foot injury, practiced in full on Friday, which means he should be good to go for Week 2.

Removed from injury report

  • OL Kiran Amegadjie (quad)

  • DT Zacch Pickens (groin)

Offensive lineman Kiran Amegadjie and defensive tackle Zacch Pickens have been removed from the injury report and will be available for Sunday night's matchup. Amegadjie has been recovering from a quad injury suffered last season. Meanwhile, Pickens missed the season opener as he dealt with a groin injury that kept him out of the last few weeks of the summer. Now, Chicago gets key interior defensive line depth behind starters Andrew Billings and Gervon Dexter.

On injured reserve/PUP list

LS Patrick Scales: Scales underwent back surgery last month to fix a disc issue, which landed him on IR to start the season. He'll miss at least the first four games of the season, and he's eligible to return in Week 5 against the Panthers. With Scales sidelined, it'll be local product Scott Daly getting the nod at long snapper.

OL Larry Borom: Borom was placed on short-term IR as the Bears submitted their 53-man roster. He's required to miss at least the first month of the season, where he can return as early as Week 5 against Carolina.

DE Jacob Martin: Martin was placed on short-term IR when Chicago assembled their 53-man roster. He's required to miss at least the first four games of the season, and he's eligible to return as early as Week 5 against the Panthers.

WR Nsimba Webster: Webster suffered a groin injury in the preseason finale against the Chiefs after an impressive first quarter of action. He was placed on IR (with no designation to return), which officially ends his 2024 season.

RB Ian Wheeler: Wheeler, the "Hard Knocks" fan favorite, suffered a torn ACL in the preseason finale against Kansas City. While the undrafted rookie be able to rehab at the facility when he's ready, his promising season is over before it even started.

WR Dante Pettis: For the second straight year, Pettis has landed on IR, and his season is over. Chicago released him with an injury settlement.
