Though they've yet to announce the full cast of players they'll be focusing on this season, they did reveal that Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk will be among them. It's a natural choice; not only is Tkachuk one of the league's biggest personalities and brightest young stars, but his brother Matthew's quest to win the Stanley Cup was the climax of the show's first season.
While the younger Tkachuk's Senators aren't quite the contenders that the Panthers are, they're a team on the rise: they're currently holding down a playoff spot as they try to take advantage of poor starts from the Penguins, Rangers, and Bruins. The Senators haven't made the playoffs since 2016-17.
We'll have to wait for the rest of the cast, although producers did tease that they'll be able to focus more on players from non-playoff teams and that they're hoping to delve even further into the families and relationships behind the league's best players.
One can assume that they'll focus on an entirely new cast of players this season, leaving behind last season's stars: David Pastrnak, Jeremy Swayman, Gabriel Landeskog, Matthew Tkachuk, Filip Forsberg, Jacob Trouba, William Nylander, Quinn Hughes, Jack Eichel, and of course the Oilers' Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
That is unless any of those players make the Stanley Cup Final. The best moments from the first season came from the Cup Final, especially in the Oilers locker room as they came back from down 3-0 only to lose in a heartbreaking game seven.
The first season of "Faceoff: Inside the NHL" gave us a never-before-seen look at some of the league's biggest stars. Whether or not the second season features any Oilers, we're sure to get another great season of TV out of the bargain.
