Who is Amar Fatah? Introducing the trialist on pre-season tour with Manchester City in the USA

Manchester City’s first-team squad in the United States will be joined by a trialist this summer, as Pep Guardiola’s side look to intensify their training regime.

The Premier League champions have travelled to the United States for a four-game tour in multiple cities along the east coast, including a clash against AC Milan in New York City’s iconic Yankee Stadium.

Manchester City have also scheduled in high-profile meetings with the Scottish Premier League champions Celtic, La Liga giants FC Barcelona, and Premier League rivals Chelsea before returning to the City Football Academy early next month.

Pep Guardiola has a significantly restricted senior squad at his disposal, with the large majority of his more known players remaining on holiday after their extended seasons competing at the European Championships.

But one player of note who is joining Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City side in the United States for their four-game pre-season tour is Troyes and Sweden youth international forward, Amar Fatah.

Fatah is a Swedish youth international who most-recently played as a winger on loan at Belgian club Lommel, on loan from the French Ligue 2 club Troyes – both of whom are part of the City Football Group.

Amar Fatah signed a five-year contract with Troyes in the summer of 2022, for an initial sum of €5 million, before joining Lommel on loan for the remainder of the 2022/23 season in the January of that campaign.

That loan agreement was subsequently extended through to the duration of the recent 2023/24 season, and the latest opportunity granted through City Football Group connections is arguably the greatest of them all in working under Pep Guardiola.

Born in Spånga, a community and parish in the borough of Spånga-Tensta in Stockholm County, Amar Abdirahman Ahmed Fatah is also of Somali descent.

But what could the future hold for Amar Fatah beyond the ongoing pre-season tour in the United States, and is there any possibility of joining Manchester City permanently in the imminent future?

As per The Athletic’s Sam Lee, the 20-year-old has been receiving treatment on an injury in Manchester over the course of this summer, and is now joining the first-team’s tour in order to help with his ongoing recovery.

The Manchester Evening News’ Simon Bajkowski has also stated that Fatah has headed out with City as a ‘trialist’, and while the highly-rated forward is unlikely to sign permanently with the Premier League champions, it is hoped it can be a useful experience for him.

Elsewhere and Manchester City have confirmed that Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic will both be joining the squad in the United States ahead of their second game, with more names expecting to arrive before the tour concludes in early August.
