Anya Taylor-Joy has little dialogue in “Furiosa”

CANNES, France (AP) – Anya Taylor-Joy does not have a lot of lines in the new movie “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.” Taylor-Joy says it makes sense because the title character has stayed silent for survival purposes. She says the tough part was that director George Miller had a very specific idea of how she should hold her face, which means she could only communicate with her eyes. “Furiosa” is in theatres today.

The vehicles needed an overhaul for “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga”

NEW YORK (AP) – When it came time to film the new movie “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” production designer Colin Gibson knew it was time to check the garage. Gibson had stored about a dozen of the vehicles from the last movie, “Fury Road,” but it’s been nine years since that film came out. Gibson says the vehicles needed “a fair amount of cleaning up,” including fuel that had turned to jelly. Because “Furiosa” takes place years before the events in “Fury Road,” Gibson had to create a newer version of the beat-up semi-truck known as the War Rig. says the “Furiosa” War Rig is “a shiny, mirrored, godlike object racing out into the desert.” “Furiosa” opens in theatres today.

“The Seed of the Sacred Fig” director risked his life to show it at Cannes

UNDATED (AP) _ The director of the film “The Seed of the Sacred Fig” fled Iran on foot and finished his film just two weeks ago in Germany before submitting it to the Cannes (CAN) Film Festival in France. It’s one of the favourites to win the top prize tomorrow. Mohammad Rasoulof’s movie is about a fictional family during the 2022 protests in Iran. It includes real cellphone footage from the demonstrations, which Iran has censored. Rasoulof is facing eight years in prison and had his passport confiscated. He will likely live in exile – and he says he will continue to make films. Rasoulof says through an interpreter it’s his way of staying alive, and there is no other way he can imagine living.
