“I am not the biggest fan” – Former Premier League star questions Erik ten Hag decision
Former Tottenham Hotspur star Rafael Van Der Vaart has questioned Erik ten Hag’s transfer policy at Manchester United and has given his verdict on the future of the Dutch coach at Old Trafford.
Entering his third year as Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag is under a lot of pressure to improve results and to show a recognisable identity with more of a focus on dominating games.
The Red Devils boss has been defiant in recent weeks with the 54-year-old keen to point out that he has won two trophies in England, second only to Pep Guardiola in recent years.
However, pressure is starting to mount on the former Ajax coach after a poor start to the current campaign with the Red Devils only picking up three points in their first three games.
Rafael Van Der Vaart questions Erik ten Hag’s Dutch targets
The former Real Madrid star has questioned Ten Hag’s decision to bring in several Dutch players to Old Trafford.
Van Der Vaart believes that signing players Dutch players who have a link to Ten Hag will only increase the pressure on the manager if it doesn’t go to plan.
Speaking to The Sun, Van Der Vaart said: “Yes, it’s tough, I think, he’s been there a few years and really spent a lot of money for his own players, which I don’t really like.
“When you as a coach, you bring a lot of Dutch people in or players, I am not the biggest fan of that because when you lose a few times then the pressure is even higher, and the football is also not really getting better.
“I saw them against Liverpool, and that, of course, it’s a tough pill to swallow because it’s like the biggest game – like the North London Derby – and you lose without a chance.
“Now he needs a lot of wins. Then he will survive but we will have to wait and see.”
