Manchester City’s midfield superstar Rodri could yet emerge on social media in the not too distant future, with one international teammate launching a campaign in favour.

The Spanish international is being widely tipped as one of the leading candidates to claim the upcoming prestigious Ballon d’Or award later this year, following an exemplary season with both Manchester City and the national team.

A treble of silverware to follow a historic treble success the season prior was largely dependent on the presence and performances of the 28-year-old at Manchester City, as a maiden UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup were followed by a fourth successive Premier League title.

That success continued on into the summer with Spain winning all of their matches at the European Championships in Germany, including victories over the aforementioned host nation and France, to beat England 2-1 in the final and claim the European crown.

Once again, Rodri was deemed integral to that success and in recognition of his performances across the competition as a whole, the Manchester City man was awarded Player of the Tournament upon victory over England in the final.

Speaking during Spain’s trophy-winning campaign in Madrid after their European Championships success over England last weekend, Alvaro Morata shone with praise for Rodri for his performances, but stressed what needs to be done in order to win the Ballon d’Or.

“We need to make him an Instagram account (for Rodri), to see if he wins a big individual award,” Morata exclaimed on stage to hundreds of thousands in attendance in the Spanish capital.

He continued, “Because, he deserves it. Because he carried us (Spain) all with his personality and game, to conquer the Euros.”

Rodrigo is one of only a few top-level global superstars to have no presence on social media, preferring to keep his focus firmly on football and on his inner circle of close family and friends.

Following Rodri’s intense schedule over the last 12 months, the Spaniard is expected to be granted an extended summer break away from Manchester City duties, with conversations set to be held in the coming days over when he can return to action.

At a minimum, Rodri will be granted three weeks break this summer, which means he will be one of several members of the squad to miss the pre-season tour of the United States, whilst similar conversations will be held over Kyle Walker, John Stones, and Phil Foden.
