Spain are sweating over the fitness of captain Alvaro Morata after he suffered a freak injury in a post-match collision with a security guard.

The Atletico Madrid forward played 76 minutes of La Roja's 2-1 win over France to book their spot in Sunday's Euro 2024 final, grabbing the assist for Lamine Yamal's long-range stunner, but fears quickly emerged when he was hit by an official attempting to halt a pitch invader during his side's post-match celebrations.

The guard slipped into Morata, who was seen grimacing and holding his knee, though Spain manager Luis de la Fuente played down concerns over the severity of the injury.

He told reporters: "With Alvaro, we are going to wait until tomorrow. We don't think it was anything, it was during the celebrations but we think he's going to be OK."

Morata himself also gave a brief update on his condition as the Spain squad left their hotel in Munich on Wednesday morning to relocate to the Black Forest ahead of Sunday's final against either England or the Netherlands.

Referring to the incident, he joked: "It was a yellow card and that's it."

Pitch invaders have been a notable problem for UEFA throughout this summer's tournament. One fan attempted to take a photo with France's Kylian Mbappe earlier in the semi-final, while five people made it onto the pitch for Portugal's 3-0 victory over Turkey during the group stage.

Morata has scored once in six Euro 2024 games so far this summer, being the focal point in attack while youngsters Yamal and Nico Williams impress on the wings.

De la Fuente's side have been the most impressive nation in Germany so far, seeing off Georgia, Germany and France in the knockout stages, and will be favourites in the final against either England or the Netherlands, with the second semi-final taking place at Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday night.
