According to Bild, Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies suffered an ankle injury while on international duty with Canada.

On Tuesday evening, Canada were eliminated from the Copa America by Argentina in the semi-final stage after suffering a 2-0 defeat. Despite Jesse Marsch’s side enjoying a remarkable journey in the first-ever Copa America voyage, their tournament ended on a sour note after Davies, the national team’s captain, was forced off through injury.

Having been hit hard on the ankle by former Nottingham Forest loanee Gonzalo Montiel, the Canadian required treatment. However, after trying to carry on, Davies collapsed to the floor and was forced off the pitch.

While the severity of the injury is still unknown, this will undoubtedly cause a headache for those at the Säbener Straße. With Davies’ contract expiring at the end of next season, this summer represents Der Rekordmeister’s last chance of receiving a lucrative fee for his signature.

Therefore, should Davies be sidelined for a period of time, Bayern will have to accept that he will remain at the club this season before leaving for free next year. As well as this, they may be forced to act quickly in the transfer market and sign a replacement for Davies.

It has been reported that the record champions are interested in AC Milan left-back Theo Hernández, but interest in his services has cooled over recent weeks. Depending on the severity of Davies’ injury, Bayern could re-ignite their interest in Hernández or offer Davies the salary demands he is hoping for.
