It’s safe to say no one was happier about the Canadian men’s national team’s victory over Honduras than Alphonso Davies.

Davies was ruled out for Canada’s upcoming series of World Cup qualifiers due to myocarditis, but the Bayern Munich superstar was more than happy to root for his teammates from afar.

The 21-year-old ran a Twitch stream during Thursday’s contest and, like the rest of us, absolutely lost it during Jonathan David’s wondergoal that sealed the 2-0 victory for Canada.

“What a ball from Liam Fraser. Oh my, there’s one touch! OH WHAT A GOLAZO! JOHNNY!”

You could spend years preparing for the broadcast booth and couldn’t deliver a call like Davies did here.

In case you missed David’s goal last night, here’s what sent Davies and the nation into a frenzy.

This was Canada’s first victory in Honduras since 1985, although the ghosts of national teams past don’t travel with this group. Canada resumes its World Cup qualifying bid on Sunday night in what’s expected to be a hotly contested game — to put it delicately — against the United States at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ont.

Davies won’t be part of that contest either but he’s arguably been Canada’s most valuable player throughout the qualifying stages, and we can’t wait until he can get back out on the field.
