Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker could return to action very soon as manager Arne Slot delivered an update on his injury.

The Brazil international has been sidelined with a muscle problem since early October, but is progressing well in his recovery.

Slot suggested that Alisson could return to action now but would rather wait for the shot stopper to be “completely fit” before playing him as Caoimhín Kelleher has deputised so well in his stead.

The Dutchman predicts that the 32-year-old will reclaim his no.1 spot before the end of the month of December, provided he suffers no furth setbacks.

“I think I’ve been clear a few weeks ago on what my position is about our goalkeepers,” the Liverpool manager said ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Newcastle United in the Premier League.

“We are just waiting for the moment Alisson is completely fit because Caoimhín is doing too well to put Alisson in goal if he’s only at 50 per cent.

“That wouldn’t be good for Alisson and it wouldn’t be good for the team.

“He’s getting there. It might take a few extra days, but he’s getting closer and closer. Like I’ve always send, the end phase of rehab is always the period where you wonder if he is really there or if he needs a few extra days.

“But he will be in goal before the end of December if things continue like they are now.”

Slot added that Federico Chiesa has returned to training following an injury-riddled few months at Liverpool.
