Alex Weiermair Commits To Portland Winterhawks

The WHL's Portland Winterhawks have signed forward Alex Weiermair, it was announced late last week.

A product of Los Angeles, Calif., Weiermair was in his sophomore season with Denver before leaving for the WHL.

In 24 games during his freshman season with the Pioneers, Weiermair collected three goals and three assists for six points. Through nine games this year, he collected two assists.

Prior to making the jump to the NCAA, Weiermair played two seasons for the U.S. NTDP, putting up 26 points in 55 games with their U18 team in 2022-23.

As Weiermair makes the move to the WHL, he has one season of junior eligibility remaining after 2024-25. It will be interesting to see if he makes the move back to the NCAA following the end of the season or plays out his overage year in the WHL.
