Alex Ovechkin Sets Record Against Minnesota Wild's Marc-Andre Fleury
Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin has had a long history with current Minnesota Wild goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.
The two played each other again on Thursday night in what could be the final meeting between the two.
Ovechkin, 39, entered Thursday's game against the Wild with 40 career goals scored on Fleury, including playoffs. He walked away from the Capitals 4-3 loss to the Wild with goal No. 41 against Fleury.

His 41st career goal against Fleury (regular season & playoffs) passed Brett Hull (40 vs. Tim Cheveldae) for the most by a player versus one goaltender in the NHL’s expansion era (since 1967-68).
Funny enough, Fleury got the last laugh.
The Wild went to a shootout after Marco Rossi scored in the third period to force overtime. Matt Boldy gave the Wild the lead in the shootout and it all came down to Ovechkin against Fleury.

Fleury stopped Ovechkin to win it for the Wild. With the win, Fleury is now 7-3-1 on the season and the Wild have started the 2025 year with a win.
