Alex Ovechkin becomes highest-scoring Russian player in NHL history

The 2018-19 season has been a pretty good one for every player with the last name Ovechkin.

For example, that Alex Ovechkin guy playing for the Washington Capitals has been lights out after leading his squad to NHL supremacy last summer. The 33-year-old currently leads the league with 37 goals and his ability to continuously find the back of the net pushed him into sole possession of 14th place on the NHL’s all-time goal-scoring list.

As a result, it was kind of surprising that an assist was what put Ovechkin into the history books once again on Tuesday night.

With his apple on T.J. Oshie’s first-period marker against the Vancouver Canucks, the former first overall pick now has 1,180 regular-season points in his career. That total is the highest by a Russian player in NHL history, breaking his tie with Sergei Fedorov.

There seems to be no slowing down the native of Moscow right now.

And if Ovechkin has taught us anything, it’s that he should never be doubted. Remember a few seasons ago when he only scored 33 goals in 82 games and many believed that his best years were behind him?
