Stanley Cup? Check. Conn Smyth Trophy as playoff MVP? Check. First-born child? Check.

To say Alex Ovechkin has had an exceptional summer would be putting it very lightly. Shortly after capturing hockey’s top individual and team postseason accolades in June following a defeat of the Vegas Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup final, Ovi and his wife Nastasiya announced they were expecting a child.

Saturday was the big day for the new family of three, as it welcomed a son into the world.

As Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post noted, the newborn was named after Ovi’s late brother who died when Alex was just 10 years old. Ovechkin posted an Instagram photo of his son with a caption thanking his wife, in Russian, that read, “Thank you my girl for the very best day of my life.”

Sergei will reportedly have both Russian and American citizenship, and my guess is he’ll have no issue getting citizenship from whichever power governs the world’s left face-off circles, too.
