Alejandro del Rey wins on DP World Tour, holds off former college teammate along the way

Alejandro del Rey won for the first time on the DP World Tour on Sunday and had to beat one of his former college teammates in the process.

In the end, Rey cruised to a four-shot victory in the 2025 Ras Al Khaimah Championship at Al Hamra Golf Club in the United Arab Emirates over Marcus Armitage. Rey also fended of LIV Golf's David Puig, who finished solo third, by seven shots. Rey and Puig were on the same team at Arizona State during the spring semester in 2020 before the COVID pandemic cut that season short.

Rey opened birdie-birdie and a third birdie at No. 5 opened up a five-shot lead. After Armitage cut it to three shots, Rey chipped in for birdie on the 11th and then made a 50-footer for birdie on the 12th, extending the lead to five once again.

A winner on the Challenge Tour in 2022, the 26-year-old Spaniard is finally tasting victory on the DP World Tour.

"I got to a point last year where I just felt like I wasn't having that much fun on the golf course because for me, playing for 20th, 30th place wasn't that meaningful at that point," he admitted after his Sunday 66, his third straight round of 66 after an opening 68. "I'm just grateful and I'm very happy that this finally came."

A third Spaniard, Ivan Cantero, tied for fifth, giving Spain three of the top seven finishers, including Puig.

LIV Golf's Patrick Reed tied for eighth.
