Alabama flips No. 2 offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor from home-state Iowa before signing day

Alabama football flipped longtime Iowa five-star offensive tackle commit Kadyn Proctor one day before the early national signing period opens Wednesday.

Proctor, the No. 12 recruit in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite, gives Alabama's No. 1-ranked 2023 class a total of 25 known commitments. Proctor is the No. 2 offensive tackle in the country.

Proctor, 6-foot-7, 330 pounds, took an unofficial visit to Alabama this past weekend and an official visit during the summer. Oregon was also in the mix.

The No. 2 offensive tackle in the nation gives Alabama four five-stars entering the signing period. He joins these five-star commits: Georgia safety Caleb Downs; Florida edge Keon Keeley; and Georgia running back Justice Haynes, a Georgia legacy.

Proctor committed to in-state Iowa in June, but recruiting experts predicted him to sign with Alabama after his last-minute visit.

Four-star interior offensive lineman Raymond Pulido flipped from Alabama to Arizona Sunday.

Alabama could have a big two days to follow Proctor's flip.

The top two in-state recruits and Carver-Montgomery teammates James Smith and Qua Russaw announce their commitments at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Defensive lineman Smith and edge Russaw are the nation's No. 18 and 22 recruits, respectively.

Smith, 6-3 and 310 pounds, and Russaw, 6-2 and 230 pounds, would bolster Alabama's class even more and give the Crimson Tide 12 top 100 commits should there be no decommits.

Four-star in-state Alabama safety commit Tony Mitchell went on a visit to Texas A&M this past weekend, and Auburn is in contention as well. Two months ago, Mitchell said he wouldn't visit other schools, but late pushes by rival programs have changed that.

Two defensive backs Alabama has made late pushes for make decisions soon, too. Four-star Florida cornerback Damari Brown makes a commitment Wednesday, and five-star IMG Academy cornerback Desmond Ricks announces his on Thursday
