De Telegraaf are reporting that Ajax are set to bring Bertrand Traore back to the club. The Burkina Faso forward is available on a free after leaving Villarreal this summer and looks set to return to Ajax, where he had spent some time on loan during the 2016/2017 season. At that time, he was owned by Chelsea.

Traore, who can play as either a striker or a winger, has struggled in recent years to find his best form. During his loan spell with Ajax he scored 13 goals and grabbed six assists in 39 games. for Lyon, he had his best time, scoring 33 goals and grabbing 16 assists in 126 games. He joined Aston Villa in 2020 and went on to grab 10 goals and seven assists in 62 games before leaving this winter to join Villarreal. He only managed one goal for the side in 11 games.

Traore has been very successful at international level for Burkina Faso. He has been a key player in two of the sides runs to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2017 and then 2022, where they won the bronze medal once (2017). In 75 games for his country he has scored 19 goals, including five at the AFCON.
