Agile Robot is Both Amazing and Scary

The field of robotics has helped us build better cars and even vacuum a floor without having us lifting a finger. But will athletics someday be taken over by our computerized friends as well?

Researchers at MIT have developed a robotic cheetah that not only can run at a healthy pace, but also recognize impediments and jump over them.

The technology inside the robot, called LIDAR, allows it to visualize obstacles and avoid them on its own.

Huge advances like this have even prompted the tech crazy country of Japan to consider hosting a robotic Olympics in the year 2020, right alongside the summer games.

All this sounds exciting and a bit scary.

While we await the robot invasion, I guess we’ll just have to put up with a real living, breathing Johnny Football.
