The agent of Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij has confirmed that the veteran defenders would both be “happy to stay” at Inter Milan.

Agent Federico Pastorello spoke to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb. He made clear that both of the two former Lazio defenders would be ready to extend their contracts with the Nerazzurri.

At the moment, de Vrij and Acerbi are Inter’s two main options in the centre of their back three.

The duo continue to provide a high standard of performance.

Both de Vrij and Acerbi have the right attributes to play in the centre of a back three. They are tall, physical centre-backs who excel at man-marking strikers.

The two Inter defenders have aerial ability, anticipation, and the experience to beat forwards to dangerous balls.

Moreover, de Vrij and Acerbi both have a strong relationship with Inter coach Simone Inzaghi. Both had played for the coach at Lazio before joining the Nerazzurri.

Despite all the positives that Acerbi and de Vrij bring, there is no getting around the fact that both are now well into their thirties.

Therefore, Inter will have to move on from the veteran pair sooner or later.

Reports link the likes of Udinese’s Jaka Bijol and Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah as possible younger replacements who would bring similar qualities.

Both Acerbi and de Vrij are under contract with Inter until the end of next June.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri will have a decision to make.

Reports widely suggest that Inter will not offer a new deal to at least one of Acerbi and de Vrij. And considering owners Oaktree Capital’s focus on youth in their project, both could even be shown the exit door.

Agent Pastorello represents both of the pair. “It’s still very early,” he said of their situations at Inter.

“But there are clauses that could allow for either the end or the continuation of their relationship,” the agent explained.

Pastorello said that “Our duty is to keep our eyes open.”

“If the club decides not to keep them, we need to find an adequate solution,” he said.

“But both would be happy to stay,” Pastorello made clear.
