Manchester United are currently finalising the departure of Antony to Real Betis

The out-of-favour Brazilian is now on the verge of completing a mid-season switch to the 12th-placed La Liga outfit after failing to cement a starting role under Ruben Amorim.

Antony, 24, has yet to make a Premier League start this campaign. He has featured from the off only three times in total – twice in the Carabao Cup, which United are now knocked out of, and once in the Europa League.

Under the new boss, Antony has spent just 252 minutes on the pitch in nine appearances thus far while also being an unused substitute for five matches.

Alas, it makes little sense for him to see out the campaign at Old Trafford, given that he’s playing such a reduced role.

While the large majority of the Old Trafford faithful are on board with INEOS facilitating the winger’s loan, it has raised eyebrows due to the lack of attacking options Amorim will then have at his disposal; Marcus Rashford has been entirely exiled and is expected to leave before the February 3 deadline, meaning Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho are the only senior wing options, with Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund available as No.9s.

As such, Fabrizio Romano has provided a welcome update in his latest YouTube video, where he confirms that the Reds ‘will be active’ on the market to find a suitable forward signing as soon as Antony leaves.

Whether it’ll be a loan or permanent deal remains to be seen, though recent budget cuts would lead you to believe the former is the most likely outcome.

In regards to Antony’s deal, there will be no buy option included in the terms, so he’ll return to M16 in the summer with hopes of reviving his United career in 2025/2026.
