AC Milan involved in race for Manchester United target Adrien Rabiot
Manchester United midfield target Adrien Rabiot is attracting the attention of AC Milan.
The Red Devils have been linked to numerous midfielders but have not yet been able to make a decisive move for any of the names on the table.
There is still no agreement on a fee between Paris Saint-Germain and United for Manuel Ugarte and this has led the club to consider other targets such as Youssouf Fofana and Martin Zubimendi.
One man whose name has never been too far away from United’s is that of Rabiot, who was very close to signing for the club back in 2022 before his wage demands torpedoed any chance of a deal.
He was also briefly linked to Erik ten Hag’s side last year before he decided to stay on at Juventus but he is currently a free agent after officially departing the Turin based side earlier in the month.
There have been reports that the 29 year is “getting closer” to a move to United but reports in Italy suggest his future may remain in Serie A.
CalcioMercato report that Rabiot is a lead that Milan are keeping “alive” in their hunt for a new midfielder.
The outlet state that his mother “is sounding out the English market” but “to date none of the clubs (Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United) have made a concrete move.”
Therefore, “everything is still open” and Milan have the carrot of Champions League football to offer the midfielder, something United sadly do not.
This is reportedly an “important factor” for the French international and makes a deal more complicated for fellow Serie A side, Napoli, who also reportedly harbour an interest in the player.
Milan’s interest in Rabiot not only effects United’s pursuit of the 29 year old but also could influence a move for Fofana.
The Rossoneri have already made two bids for the AS Monaco player but United are said to be keen to get involved in a deal as they are struggling to make progress in their pursuit of Ugarte.
It is a complicated game of chess. At this stage it is unclear whether Milan, or in fact United, are targeting both Fofana and Rabiot or whether the two French internationals are fall back options for each other in the case of either club.
