Abi Harrison returns to Celtic as Ghirls announce second January addition
Celtic FC Women are thrilled to announce the signing of Scotland internationalist Abi Harrison, who joins the club in the January transfer window.
The 27-year-old striker has signed a short term deal until the end of the season, marking her return to Glasgow after six successful years at Bristol City.
Harrison began her football journey at Celtic as a youngster coming through the Academy, making her first-team debut at just 14 years old.
After her initial spell with the Hoops, the striker moved to Hibernian FC, where she enjoyed a hugely successful four years.
During that time, she won the Scottish Women’s Cup in 2016 and three consecutive League Cups between 2016 and 2018.
Harrison’s goal-scoring ability stood out as she claimed the Golden Boot in back-to-back seasons, scoring 15 goals in 2017 and an incredible 25 goals in 2018.
In January 2019, Harrison joined English side Bristol City, where she became a key player and the club’s all-time record scorer with 40 goals in 128 appearances.
She was instrumental in Bristol City’s promotion-winning campaign in 2023, helping them secure the FA Women’s Championship title.
On the international stage, Harrison earned her first Scotland call-up in 2016 and made her full competitive debut in 2021, scoring a dramatic last-minute equaliser at Hampden Park against Ukraine.
After making her return to the Hoops, Harrison said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be back at Celtic and can’t wait to get going again. A lot of people know that it is a bit of a full circle fairytale for me.
“I made no illusions when I left the club as a 17-year-old that it was my dream to play for them again one day.
'As soon as I signed for Bristol, I said the only club that I would leave Bristol for was Celtic.'
“It probably still hasn’t hit me yet that I’ve been able to do that. That will come and process when I pull the shirt on for the first time in a game.
So, I think it feels amazing, and I know it’s just going to keep getting better, especially for me and my family.
“They can see my not only live my dream but also live there’s as well as we are all Celtic fans.”
Elena Sadiku added: “We’re very excited to bring Abi into our squad. She has great experience in both the Women’s Super League and the Championship.
“She was a very important player for Hibernian when she played in Scotland, and obviously she has represented the Scottish National Team at senior level too.
“Her presence in the penalty area and her technical ability to score goals is something that is going to hopefully help us add more goals and be more clinical.”
