Aaron Rodgers Jokes About Breaking Tom Brady's Record as Most-Sacked NFL QB Ever
Rodgers surpassed Brady on Sunday with his 568th sack, while Brady concluded his career with 565
Aaron Rodgers now has one NFL record of Tom Brady’s that the seven-time Super Bowl champ is probably very okay with losing: the most-sacked quarterback in NFL history.
But Rodgers, 41, maintains a sense of humor about the new marker.
After the Sunday, Dec. 29 game between Rodgers’ New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills, in which the Jets lost 40-14, the quarterback made a knowing joke during the post-game press conference.
"Yeah, I got Tom on that," he told reporters after the game, per Bleacher Report.
Rodgers has exceeded Brady’s record by three, and now has 568 sacks, while the retired NFL star concluded his career with 565.
The new record follows the Jets' 12th loss this 2024-25 season, which ties Rodgers for the second most by a former Associated Press MVP quarterback in the award’s history, per ESPN. The Associated Press previously awarded him NFL MVP for the 2011, 2014, 2020 and 2021 NFL seasons.
Rodgers and the Jets will miss the playoffs this season, after hopes in September that the now-fully-healthy QB would get the team to the Super Bowl. “I mean, it’s kind of like the season, it just got away from us,” Rodgers said on Dec. 29, per Bleacher Report. “Too many games got away from us. We were moving the ball and then we just hit a wall and that’s kind of been the season.”

The recent tumultuous season also follows Rodgers' acknowledgment that his time with the team is uncertain. Sports analyst Jim Nantz said during the Sunday CBS broadcast of the game that Rodgers gave a vague answer when he asked him about his future on the Jets.
“He looked us right in the eye and said, ‘I really don’t know. I’ll take some time,'” Nantz, 65, said.
Meanwhile, over a month prior, SNY reported that sources said "the team prefers to move on from Rodgers, too." However, there have been no reported updates regarding the Jets' opinion on keeping Rodgers, who is under contract through 2025.
If the team separates from Rodgers, it will coincide with their search for their next head coach. The team fired Robert Saleh earlier this season, on Oct. 8.
