The Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong had quite a turbulent 2023-24 season. He was frequently linked with a move away from the Catalan club, and he also exploded against the press in one of the press conferences for spreading false information about his wages.

Injuries also took a toll on the midfielder in the last campaign, and he had to miss the last phase of the season as he suffered a right ankle injury in the El Clasico against Real Madrid on 21st April 2024.

After that date, the Dutchman was unable to participate in the remaining matches for Barcelona, and also could not recover in time to participate in the UEFA EURO 2024 with the Netherlands.

However, he was among the players who underwent a medical test to start the preseason under Hansi Flick yesterday. These tests were important for the midfielder, who is also one of the captains for Barcelona, considering he has not yet recovered from this latest injury.

While the results of these tests were not made public, Barcelona fans were still left concerned about the state of De Jong’s ankle. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, these fans were able to see quite clearly the Dutchman’s swollen right ankle in the media published by the club related to the medical checkups of the players who reported to Flick for the first day of the preseason.

In these media, a clear difference between the player’s two ankles can be observed, which shows that he might need some more time to completely recover from this injury.

He might not be able to participate in the first training sessions with his teammates in such a condition. Flick has scheduled a double training session for today, and the presence or absence of the Dutchman will give a more clearer idea on how his recovery is going.
