Liverpool transfer target Murillo has admitted that a move to Anfield would be a ‘good opportunity’ amid reports that he could leave Nottingham Forest this summer.

Murillo, 22, was named Forest’s player of the season following a stellar campaign at centre back following his £11 million move from Corinthians in 2023.

The defender signed a five-year deal at the City Ground, tying him to Forest until 2028, but there has been speculation that he could move on this summer.

Chelsea are reported to have offered a cash-plus-player deal involving Trevoh Chalobah last week while Liverpool’s interest in the Brazilian stopper goes back further

Following the announcement of Richard Hughes as new sporting director, the Reds were linked with a move for Murillo ahead of the transfer window opening.

With Joel Matip out of contract and long-term doubts over the future of Virgil van Dijk, it would be a surprise if a defender was not on the Anfield agenda this year, even if no signings have yet been made.

Murillo reveals transfer preference

Sums as high as £70m have been discussed for Murillo, with Forest coming out of a season in which they were punished for financial fair play breaches.

Murillo admits that he is aware of transfer chat and has named his preference if he is to move on from Forest.

Manchester City would be his favourite team to move to, but has not discounted a transfer to Arsenal or Liverpool should the opportunity arise.

“I don’t know if it’s £70 million, but I know there was a buzz of interest,” Murillo told the Benja Me Mucho podcast.

“So, I don’t know exactly how much the amount is, but I know there was interest.

“I had the dream of playing in the Premier League and I had that thought. I thought: 'I’ll go to Nottingham Forest, have a good year and then I’ll go to a big club'. I had that in my head.

“I’d choose Manchester City but it would be more difficult for me to be a regular starter given the players they have in their squad.

“There’s City, Arsenal as well, who are fighting for the Premier League title. I wouldn’t discard Liverpool either, it would be a good opportunity for me to show my football in a big club.

"We don’t know anything for certain, the window opened last month so I’m going to return to Nottingham Forest for pre-season.

“There might be some discussions on whether I’ll stay or not so there’s a lot of things to happen still but I’m relaxed.”
