€65m bid for long term Chelsea target reminds Blues they could still land elite striker
After years of being intensely linked with potential moves to Chelsea, Victor Osimhen is a name which has totally fallen off the radar.
The vast asking price Napoli put on his head last summer put teams off, he eventually moved on loan to Galatasaray, and the world moved on. The emergence of Nicolas Jackson as one of the Premier League’s best strikers through the first half of the season meant Chelsea fans weren’t thinking too much about the Nigerian star.
But things have changed – not only has Jackson’s form gone off a cliff, reminding us all that we do still need an alternative striker, one with a real eye for goal, but also Osimhen’s asking price has started to come down.
The €120m they wanted became €75m, and now we read reports from CaughtOffside that Galatasaray have had a €65m offer rejected to turn that move permanent. That means Napoli want more, of course, but it indicates the continued trend downwards.
Osimhen has shown desire to come back to a top European league, and surely would love a chance to test himself in the English top flight.
Chelsea should consider return for former top target as price comes down
In a world where Alejandro Garnacho is being priced at €80m, and a world where Axel Disasi cost €45m, you won’t find a single Chelsea fan who wouldn’t rather sign Osimhen for that sort of money. Of course his wages are likely to be the major issue now, as Chelsea try to squeeze everyone into their salary structure.
But if Osimhen ends up moving for a reasonable price somewhere else, there will be plenty of Blues fans scratching their heads about how we fumbled the signing of a potential elite striker to change this team’s fortunes instantly.
