Yahoo Sports 49ers place Richard Sherman on IR with leg injury, per report
The San Francisco 49ers are struggling with injuries to key players right now, and Wednesday brought more bad news. The team is reportedly placing cornerback Richard Sherman on injured reserve with a leg injury.
The #49ers are placing CB Richard Sherman on IR today, sources say. He’ll be sidelined at least three weeks. Exact injury unclear but am told it’s a leg issue.

The nature of the leg injury is unknown, and him being injured at all is a surprise. Sherman played 74 of 78 snaps against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, and didn’t mention anything during his postgame news conference. Though it’s possible he was too busy criticizing the referees and ran out of time to mention any leg injury.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan also hasn’t mentioned anything about a Sherman since Sunday. However, it doesn’t look like this is going to be a long-term issue. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, this is just a flareup of a previous injury from several years ago.

Thanks to the temporary COVID-19 IR rules, 32-year-old Sherman can be back in as little as three weeks, and he’s expected to be ready by then. That’s good news, but the Niners will still be without him for games against the New York Jets, New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles. Though considering that the Jets suffered an embarrassing loss to the Buffalo Bills last week, the Giants got pasted by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday, and the injury-depleted Eagles lost to the Washington Football Team, maybe there isn’t so much to worry about.
