4 Blackhawks Prospects Nominated For Hobey Baker Award

The Chicago Blackhawks have some really good prospects to be excited about. Outside of Connor Bedard, they still lack that superstar forward but the depth up front is there in the system. It is also an organization deep on defense as well.

A few of Chicago’s top prospects play college hockey which is becoming one of the best developmental approaches in the world. On Wednesday, we learned about four Blackhawks prospects who were nominated for the Hobey Baker Award.

The Hobey Baker Award goes to the player considered to be the most outstanding college hockey player for that season. It is a tremendous honor to win it. NHL stars like Jack Eichel, Macklin Celebrini, and Adam Fantilli were all winners of it before making a name for themselves in the big leagues.

Sacha Boivert of North Dakota, Aidan Thompson of Denver, Sam Rinzel of Minnesota, and Ryan Greene of Boston University are the Blackhawks draft picks nominated for the Hobey Baker Award this year.

Boisvert was one of Chicago's first-round picks in the 2024 NHL Draft. His freshman year is going about as well as you can expect from a player of his caliber. He is a two-way forward who has recently been lighting it up offensively.

Thompson was a third-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft by Chicago. At Denver, he has been spectacular, including a National Championship in 2024. This year, he has taken his game to another level with a point-per-game campaign. He and his Denver teammates are a strong candidate to repeat.

Rinzel was a first-round selection in that same 2022 draft. As a defenseman, he is close to operating at a point-per-game pace at the University of Minnesota which also could be a team that wins it all. If they make a deep run, Rinzel will play a huge role in all three zones.

Last but not least, Ryan Greene is currently the captain of that great BU team that also believes that they can go deep. He is also a guy with more points than games played and hopes to keep it that way down the stretch. His two-way game is wonderful for the depth of the Terriers.

Greene plays a game that would translate to the NHL as a depth piece. All of these guys can say that but a couple of them may even be more than depth players. The sky is the limit. With the way that their college seasons are going, they should be very proud.

Eventually, the large field of players nominated will be reduced until they have a winner. Plenty of players around the nation, including these four, deserve the recognition.
