3 Takeaways From Bruins' Brutal Loss To Maple Leafs

The Boston Bruins fell to the Toronto Maple Leafs by a 6-4 final score on Saturday night. With this, the Bruins have now lost three straight games and trail the first-place Maple Leafs by eight points in the Atlantic Division.

Let's go over three takeaways from the contest now.

Bruins Can't Stop Leafs' Top Stars

The Bruins just could not stop the Maple Leafs' top players in this one. Matthew Knies had a hat trick and five points, Mitch Marner also had a five-point night, and Auston Matthews had a goal and two assists in his return. John Tavares also had a goal of his own.

The Maple Leafs' stars took advantage of the Bruins' shaky play and helped Toronto secure a big win because of it.

Bruins Top Forwards Get Outmatched

The Bruins' top line of David Pastrnak, Elias Lindholm, and Brad Marchand were outmatched by the Maple Leafs in this contest. Pastrnak had a team-worst minus-4 in the game, while Lindholm and Marchand each sported minus-3 ratings.

Out of the trio, Pastrnak had the best game, though. He scored two goals against the Leafs, including the one that made it a 5-4 game late. However, Matthews ended the Bruins' comeback attempt by scoring an empty-netter after.

Trent Frederic Finally Breaks The Ice

While the Bruins lost this matchup, it was good to see Trent Frederic get on the scoresheet with a goal. The 2016 first-round pick did not record a point in 11 straight games before this matchup.

Frederic will now look to continue to produce offense from here. It has been a tough year for the pending UFA, but there is still time for him to turn things around.
