3 Standouts from Days 9 and 10 of Bears training camp practice

The Chicago Bears are in the thick of training camp practices as they inch closer and closer to the start of the 2024 season. Every rep counts for this team as they look to install a brand new offense with new playmakers, including rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.

On defense, the Bears are building off a successful 2023 season with many of the same starters in place. They will look to solidify themselves as a top defense, while role players on both sides try and make an impact to secure a roster spot when the preseason wraps up.

After every practice, we will be highlighting a handful of players who stood out and why. Days 9 and 10 were vastly different from one another. Tuesday's session was back in full pads in front of fans in the blazing heat, while Wednesday was much lighter as the Bears prepare for their first preseason game of the year. Here were a few standouts from the last couple of practices:

1. WR Rome Odunze

It has been a solid week for the rookie wide receiver. Rome Odunze made the play of the day on Monday and followed that up with two spectacular catches on Tuesday. During the two-minute drill, Williams found Odunze in the front of the left end zone, throwing a rocket in double coverage. With safety Kevin Byard closing in and cornerback Terell Smith trailing, Odunze caught the pass with ease for the score.

His other touchdown was more impressive, however. Williams once again found Odunze in the end zone, with the receiver high-pointing the ball over Reddy Steward in coverage to bring in the score. His big frame makes him a weapon in the red zone, and Odunze is showing off the skills that made him such a commodity in the draft.

2. S Jaquan Brisker

Tuesday's practice saw Williams get the best of the defense in the two-minute drill, but it was a different story earlier in the day. Part of the reason for that was safety Jaquan Brisker. The Bears safety was able to get his hands on a pass from Williams, who was throwing to Cole Kmet, according to Shaw Media's Sean Hammond. Brisker secured the interception and was able to create a turnover off a late throw. There's also little doubt that Brisker celebrated the pick in boisterous fashion, too.

3. DT Zacch Pickens

It's been a quiet camp for defensive tackle Zacch Pickens. The 2023 third-round pick is firmly with the second team defensive line, though he did go against Williams in practice on Wednesday and he finally made some noise. According to CHGO's Nicholas Moreano, Pickens got his hands on a pass from Williams and batted the ball at the line of scrimmage. The 6-foot-4 lineman may not have the same size as someone like Gervon Dexter, but he's big enough to disrupt the quarterback.
