3 Former Sabres Placed On Waivers

The Buffalo Sabres recently placed six players on waivers: Joshua Dunne, Mason Jobst, Brett Murray, Colton Poolman, Jack Rathbone, and Felix Sandstrom. With the club needing to finalize their roster, it is not shocking that Buffalo put so many of their players on waivers.

All teams around the league are doing this for the same reason. Because of this, three former Sabres are also on waivers now: Casey Fitzgerald, Brandon Biro, and Christian Wolanin.

With the New York Rangers having deep defensive depth, seeing Fitzgerald placed on waivers is not too surprising. However, if he clears waivers, he should be a solid addition to the Hartford Wolf Pack's roster.

Fitzgerald, 27, was selected by the Sabres with the 86th overall pick of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. In 59 games as a Sabre, the right-shot defender had nine assists, 115 hits, and a minus-20 rating.

Biro's time with the Sabres organization officially ended this off-season when he signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Seattle Kraken.

Biro joined the Sabres organization back during the 2020-21 season and remained with them until the end of this past season. In six games as a Sabre, he had two goals. He spent the majority of his time with the organization down in the AHL with the Amerks, recording 46 goals and 140 points in 171 games.

As for Wolanin, his time with the Sabres was incredibly brief. After the Sabres claimed him off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings, he played in just one game for Buffalo during the 2021-22 season. From there, the Sabres soon placed him on waivers, and the Kings claimed him back.

Since the 2022-23 season, Wolanin has been with the Vancouver Canucks organization but has primarily played in the AHL. In 42 games last season for the Abbotsford Canucks, he had five goals and 29 points.
