An insight into the predicted captaincy pecking order in the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona this coming season has on Tuesday been provided.

The info comes courtesy of Diario Sport, and points towards the situation, for the most part, as being all but set in stone.

Barcelona have of course bid farewell to the club’s previous skipper this summer, after the decision was made to allow Sergi Roberto’s contract to expire.

The incoming Hansi Flick, in turn, has been left with a decision to make.

As per Sport, the expectation is that the Blaugrana’s new leader will simply come in the form of the man to have acted as vice-captain in 2023/24.

As such, Marc-André ter Stegen will take on the responsibility of the armband moving forward.

Behind him, Ronald Araújo and Frenkie de Jong will be bumped up the pecking order, too.

This leaves a solitary spot in Barca’s four-man captaincy cohort.

And the understanding is that the current favourite to be added to this group comes in the form of veteran frontman Robert Lewandowski.

Hansi Flick is a firm believer in not only Lewandowski’s talents as a player, but as a dressing room presence, too.

The other two options for the role, meanwhile, are İlkay Gündoğan, and Pedri.
