$28M titanium plant expansion will add 100 jobs in E. Washington

ATI, formerly Allegheny Technologies Inc., is expanding its titanium melt facility in Richland’s Horn Rapids Industrial Park.

The Dallas, Texas-based specialty metals company provides material to the aerospace and defense industries.

It’s secured a building permit for a 41,000-square-foot project valued at $28 million from the city of Richland. The plant will be at 3101 Kingsgate Way, near Battelle Boulevard.

A spokesperson confirmed ATI applied for a permit, but said it was not ready to announce its Richland plans. The facility is ATI’s only location in Washington state.

The operation is expected to employ about 100.

Rising customer demand has prompted the company to expand its titanium melt capacity this year.

In May, it told analysts would expand capacity by 35%. It will accomplish that through operational improvements at existing facilities and by restarting its melt facility in Albany, Ore., which was idled in 2020, the spokesperson said.

In June, it announced $1.2 billion in new sales commitments from aerospace and defense customers for nickel and titanium materials.

ATI reported $1 billion in revenue for the first quarter of 2023, up 25% from the same quarter of 2022.
