Long have Manchester United been linked with a move for attack-minded fullback Jeremie Frimpong, though a deal is yet to come to fruition.

That could all change in 2025, however, as Fichajes claim that both the Red Devils and Manchester City are plotting potential moves for Frimpong upon the culmination of the current season.

It was thought that the Dutch international would leave Bayer Leverkusen over the summer, primarily because he had a £34 million release clause embedded into his contract, which expired in July. Yet, he entered 2024/2025 ready to embark on his fourth full season with the reigning Bundesliga champions.

Frimpong played an integral role in Leverkusen’s unprecedented 2023/2024 season, during which they remained unbeaten until the Europa League final. He notched a remarkable 14 goals and 12 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions, unsurprisingly earning himself a spot in both the Bundesliga and EL Team of the Season.

According to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, United were monitoring his situation as recently as April before they ultimately pursued right-back Noussair Mazraoui – another ex-Erik ten Hag protegee – instead.

StrettyNews’ verdict…

Despite the unquestionable attacking exploits that the 23-year-old – who was previously hailed as ‘one of the best wing-backs in Europe’ – could bring to the team, it’s difficult to see where he’d fit in.

Ten Hag isn’t short of options on the right flank, given that both Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot are such trustworthy options in defence, while further up the pitch, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo are vying for the starting spot on the right wing. Therefore, you’d imagine United would only sanction Frimpong’s arrival if a player exits first.
