£25,000-a-week player wants to leave Chelsea in January, claims two journalists
Renato Veiga wants to leave Chelsea for Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window.
That is according to two well-known and well-respected journalists Fabrizio Romano and Patrick Berger on X.
Berger has reported that Veiga has a verbal agreement with Dortmund, who are keen on a loan deal with an option to make it permanent.
Romano has noted that the £25,000-a-week (Spotrac) Portugal international wants to join Dortmund because he has not been used as a centre-back by Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca this season.
Veiga moved to Chelsea from FC Basel in the summer of 2024. The 21-year-old can operate as a left-back, defensive midfielder or centre-back.
The youngster has played 18 matches in all competitions for the Blues so far this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist in the process.
Renato Veiga has agreed on joining Borussia Dortmund this January.
He wants the move as @berger_pj and Kicker report — also to play as centre back, his favorite position where didn’t have space in Premier League so far.

Loan exit for Renato Veiga could help him
Veiga is a very good and promising player, but he is only 21 now. He is still developing and growing as a footballer.
It was always going to be a big jump leaving FC Basel for Chelsea last summer, especially with the new players that the Premier League giants signed. And let us not forget that the Blues also hired a new manager.
A loan move to Dortmund in the January transfer window would make sense for Veiga. If he gets to play regularly for the German club, then it will help him develop.
Dortmund are a massive club and have a loyal fanbase. Nuri Sahin’s side are aiming to finish in the top four of the Bundesliga table this season, so Veiga will be turning out for a team under pressure. It will help the youngster grow as a player.
Veiga’s confidence will return if he plays regularly for Dortmund, and he could come back to Chelsea as a more mature and better player.
